Easter! What a glorious time to celebrate our risen Lord with family and friends! Easter is one of my favorite holidays not only because of the meaning of the holiday but also because it’s springtime, flowers are in bloom, and children are running through the grass hunting Easter eggs and just being together with the people we love! Oh, I didn’t forget all the great food to add to this celebration! We can’t forget that, it is possible to have delicious keto food everyone will love and make healthy food choices at the same time!
I try to set a pretty table. As I get a bit older, I tend to use less glass and washable servingware! Ha! I don’t want to wash dishes for an hour! I usually make things fun and casual, so I don’t feel that bad about using paper. (Sorry, environment. I feel bad about that! But I do recycle!)
I bought these pretty Pioneer Woman plates and tablecloths at Walmart. I think some pieces are still available, but I just went with a more fun set this year that was very inexpensive on Amazon. It comes with a cute banner I put across the fireplace.
This is my blog post from last year, in which I discussed filling Easter baskets with keto and carby goodies.
I “try” not to go overboard on candy. I’ll do small toys and money and this year I’m making little coupons on post-it notes, and they will say things like, “pizza night”, trip to the Dollar Store,” “Stay up later,” “more video time,” just any fun things your children would like!
You can buy small wooden tokens that are already made. I think this is such a great idea!
I’m also including eclipse glasses in the baskets this year! I have to have those! The total solar eclipse is coming up on April 8th. I just was invited to an eclipse party! I had thought I would walk out in my backyard all alone and look up at the sky, so that would be fun!
Make sure the glasses have a certification number, but that can be faked, too! Put your glasses on and look at a bare light bulb or other bright light; you should just barely be able to see it!
Here’s the date and trajectory!
This is a photo of my son’s keto basket last year. Yes, he’s 34, and I still make him a basket! Ha! Actually, I make baskets for everyone. I used to have a gift basket business, and I just love filling baskets!
My cute great-nephews, Eli and Jude, are hunting eggs!
Ever since my son, Christopher, was just a little boy I would use these Resurrection Eggs to tell the story of Easter and these eggs that are now 30 years old are used to tell the story to our family’s next generation today. I feel like the true meaning behind Easter gets very lost. Children associate Easter with the Easter Bunny instead of understanding the sacrifice Jesus made for them and how we celebrate His resurrection on Easter Sunday and all the joy that day brings. The children wait with anticipation to see what will be in the next egg and the story behind it. From the Crown of Thorns to the nails used, to a chalice representing the Last Supper, to finally an empty egg at the end representing the empty tomb where Jesus was gone! I love these eggs so much.
Here is a set similar to mine that comes with a guiding booklet, and I hope it can be something to share with your family for generations!
Next, we will color eggs or decorate cookies or something similar. They have loved decorating with this spinning egg thingy!
Now for the keto food, finally!
Charcuterie/Appetizers
Last year, I made this cute Bunny Charcuterie Board.
But this is the year of my Easy Peasy Easter. I found some Easter cups when I brought out all the decorations and I thought it would be cute to make individual charcuterie cups. Line them with some lettuce and put small skewers or toothpicks with any kind of keto ingredients you like such as small rounds of salami and pepperoni, (fold them in half) grape tomatoes, stuffed olives, cheese cubes, mozzarella balls, that sort of thing. IF I get very industrious I might make some kind of handle to go on the cup to make it look like a basket, but at this point I just am not sure on that! Ha! 🤷♀️I’ll update this post when I get them made and we’ll just see!
Here are some bunny cups that I think would be very cute for individual charcuterie cups!
This is a very tasty appetizer. Everyone will love this Easter Cheeseball!
I think we are just going pretty basic this year. I have some tried and true things I make for Easter that everyone loves, so unless I have an incredible light-bulb moment for something new I’m going with the things I know I can have and I know that other people will like also.
This is a great salad that I have made many times. I don’t think we had it last year, so this will be new, sort of!
Keto Baby Blue Salad
This is SO good with strawberries, spicy pecans, bleu cheese, and a balsamic vinaigrette!
Deviled Eggs
Easter wouldn’t be Easter without deviled eggs. You can take a small piece of carrot and parley and make it look like a little carrot on top or even soak the hard boiled eggs in food coloring and water to have pastel colored eggs.
You can even make your eggs look like little chicks! 🐣
Awwww so cute!
Dinner Rolls
Bread! Yes we can have bread! You do have to watch it though because anything with the nut flours can get carby quickly.
This has been my favorite roll for a few years now. Have you ever had Sister Schubert frozen rolls? These Keto Dinner Rolls remind me so much of them. I’ve used them in other ways too, like for slider buns. If you just search sliders, here on virtaworks, all the slider recipes will come up. Non-keto people love them too! 4.9 carbs for two of those rolls as show.
I’ve also been experimenting with this great Bread Mix from Fox Hill Kitchens. I’ve made so many things with it besides rolls. It makes pizza crusts, tortillas, hot dog and hamburger buns, and I r recently discovered THE BEST chaffles. I have a post coming out soon. A small roll is about 4 carbs.
I’m not sure if there is enough time to get an order from Fox Hill Kitchens before Easter, but if you're fast, possibly. Use the link below and the code word virtaworks for 15% off regularly priced items. Bundles are already discounted.
If you can’t get it from Fox Hill Kitchens in time, you could get it on Amazon, it is more expensive, but it would be worth it to have some great rolls with Easter dinner!
Here’s all about the great Fox Hill Kitchens products!
Sides
There are SO many sides to choose from. Here at virtaworks, we have put together a whole collection of Easter recipes. Just click on the Easter recipes button on the home page. But be sure to look through other tabs, too.
Keto Broccoli and Cauliflower Rice Casserole
My family LOVES Broccoli Rice Casserole at every holiday meal, but it has to be the carbohydrate version. That’s fine; I just use the same recipe for myself, substituting the carbohydrate rice for cauliflower rice. It’s delicious!
Asparagus is such a beautiful, springy vegetable. This Asparagus with Cajun Hollandaise would be delicious!
You also can’t go wrong Cauliflower Mash a la George, better than mashed potatoes I swear!
Another great choice is a keto green bean casserole. YUM! The photo doesn’t show it, but I like to sprinkle the top with ground pork rinds.
Protein
Now for your protein of choice. You certainly don’t have to do ham. A baked chicken, Cornish hens, roasted lamb, or anything else you like would work. I'm just doing a simple Apricot Glazed Ham.
There are several other delicious ham recipes, too, here on virtaworks.
You could make quite the presentation with this beautiful, delicious Lamb Roast filled with Cream Cheese!
Dessert
I think carrot cake for Easter and I did make a Keto Carrot Cake last year, but I just have to be honest. My non-keto family doesn’t respond well to keto desserts. If my son sees a dessert, before he even tries it, he asks, “Is it real?” I suppose that is to be expected. I’m not sure if anyone even tried the keto carrot cake! So that left this giant cake all for me! I did not want a giant cake! So unless you are having dinner with multiple keto people or want to freeze a bunch of cake, this might not be the best choice, but didn’t it look pretty?🥕
I had a couple of pieces with keto vanilla ice cream and that was very good!
I remember my family liked this Keto Strawberry Shortcake Pie, so I think this might be a good choice! I possibly will use raspberries since the salad has strawberries. Please cross your fingers for me that there is not a keto dessert revolt!
There are so many other desserts to choose from, and sometimes, I will make an individual mug cake for myself and have someone else bring a carb-based dessert. So check out all the desserts on Virtaworks! Something with lemon would be good, too!
Your Easter celebration can be joyful and health-conscious. The holiday is about coming together and creating memories. This goal is achievable on a keto diet with creativity and preparation.
I hope this keto Easter guide helps you and your family to have a happy and blessed Easter!
Wishing you good health and happiness,
Denise🌷
Great ideas! Have a blessed Easter.
